Chapter 7 Cable Management

In this chapter we will cover the options available in the Cable Management menu.

From the Main Menu bar, select IT Studio, then Cable Management. This is shown below:

The selections on the fly out menu will be thoroughly covered in this chapter. The chapter is laid out in the order of the menu above. However, please note that this is NOT the order in which you would proceed when initially building this part of your drawing. You should proceed through the Menu as follows:

  1. Install Cable Trays first. Do your intersection ('T', 'L' and '+') pieces first. Then do your straight pieces. It is easier to approach it this way as the system will install the straight trays as a point-to-point connection.

  2. Edit Connections second. Actually what you are doing here is defining the ports on your equipment so you know where to connect to.

  3. Connect Devices third. After having completed the two previous steps you can actually make the connections.

Before starting any of this work, you will need to gather information about your equipment and your Data Center floor in order to begin and to smooth out your work flow. Each section will at advise you at the beginning what information you need to gather.

  1. Inquiry / Edit

    Covers how to do an inquiry on a specific piece of equipment by selecting it from the drawing.

  2. Cable Display (List)

    Covers how to look at all connections to a specific piece of equipment.

  3. Connect Devices

    A step-by-step procedure on how to connect your equipment through cable trays.

  4. Edit Connection

    This section covers how to define the ports for your equipment so that you can then connect them. Additionally, how to go back and edit connections is also covered.

  5. Remove Cables

    This section covers has a short procedure on how to remove your cable connections.

  6. Import Cables

    In this section you will learn how to import your cable data from another file.

  7. Clone Connections

    This section will walk you through on how to clone the ports/connections from one device to one or many devices.

  8. Director Configuration

    This sections covers how to configure your mainframe Director.

  9. Cable Tray Info

    This section shows you how to find the Cable Tray ID number for a Cable Tray.

  10. Cable Tray Load

    This is a short section on how to ascertain the load of each tray.

  11. Install Cable Tray

    A step-by-step procedure on how to install your cable tray system in the data center.

  12. Edit Cable Tray

    This section covers the short procedure to edit your Cable Tray ID's.
